{"id":626,"date":"2011-06-21T09:01:34","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T09:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/?p=626"},"modified":"2013-11-01T10:46:37","modified_gmt":"2013-11-01T10:46:37","slug":"lm-wind-power-to-develop-the-worlds-longest-wind-turbine-blades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/2011\/06\/lm-wind-power-to-develop-the-worlds-longest-wind-turbine-blades\/","title":{"rendered":"LM Wind Power to develop the world\u2019s longest wind turbine blades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LM Wind Power and Alstom have partnered to develop the longest wind turbine blade ever produced<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe 73.5 metre blade with a rotor diameter of 150m\/492 is designed to fit <a ticker=\"EPA%3AALO\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wikinvest.com\/stock\/Alstom_(ALO-FR)\" target=\"_blank\" articletitle=\"QWxzdG9t_0\" articletype=\"company\" class=\"wikinvest-suggestion-link\">Alstom&#8217;s<\/a> new 6 MW wind turbine for the growing European offshore wind market.<\/p>\n<p>This blade requires more than 20,000 hours of work by LM Wind Power\u2019s specialist teams which focus especially on aerodynamics, structural design and production processes. The blade uses advanced composite materials enabling LM Wind Power to design and manufacture relatively lighter glass fiber and polyester blades for the length.<\/p>\n<p>The prototype blades will be produced in the company\u2019s Danish factory in Lunderskov and will be ready for installation at Alstom prototype sites in Europe over the winter 2011\/12. Future production depends on the end markets that Alstom wishes to address, most likely France, UK and other North Sea markets.<\/p>\n<p>Roland Sund\u00e9n, Chief Executive Officer, LM Wind Power Group said;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We are proud to partner with Alstom on this important project.
