{"id":15349,"date":"2020-01-28T08:48:50","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T08:48:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/?p=15349"},"modified":"2020-01-28T08:48:55","modified_gmt":"2020-01-28T08:48:55","slug":"boeing-777x-completes-first-test-flight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/2020\/01\/boeing-777x-completes-first-test-flight\/","title":{"rendered":"Boeing 777X Completes First Test Flight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"font-size:27px\">Boeing has successfully completed the first test flight of its new 777X, the worlds largest twin-engined plane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 777X took off at Paine Field in Everett, Washington for a three hour, 51-minute flight over Washington state before landing at Seattle&#8217;s Boeing Field, two earlier attempts were called off due to high winds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first of four dedicated 777-9 flight test aeroplanes, WH001 will now undergo checks before resuming testing in the coming days. The test fleet, which began ground testing in Everett last year, will endure a comprehensive series of tests and conditions on the ground and in the air over the coming months to demonstrate the safety and reliability of the design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration has said that rigorous testing will be conducted before the plane is allowed to carry passengers, while Sir Tim Clarke President of Emirates, has said the plane should be put through &#8220;hell on Earth&#8221; to ensure it is safe and performs properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We took the time to get the aeroplane ready for flight test so I think we are going to march through flight tests successfully and quickly and get it certified to the FAA standards.<\/p><cite>Boeing&#8217;s chief test pilot Craig Bomben<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The 252-foot-long passenger plane will deliver 10 per cent lower fuel use and emissions and 10 per cent lower operating costs than the competition thanks to advanced aerodynamics, the latest generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/tag\/carbon-fibre\">carbon-fibre<\/a> composite wing and the most advanced commercial engine ever built, GE Aviation&#8217;s GE9X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In December 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compositesdirectory.com\/listing\/boeing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Boeing (opens in a new tab)\">Boeing<\/a> began construction on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/2016\/05\/boeing-opens-new-777x-composites-wing-centre\/\">composites facility in St. Louis<\/a> to build 777X parts with six\u00a0autoclaves\u00a0for the wing and\u00a0empennage\u00a0parts, starting in 2017. The 787 &#8216;surge&#8217; line at the\u00a0Everett factory\u00a0would be converted into a 777X early production line by the end of 2015. Boeing then created a new building next door to the Everett factory, with a 120\u00a0ft (37\u00a0m) autoclave, and a robot to wind fibre for the wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-tiled-gallery aligncenter is-style-rectangular\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__gallery\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__row\"><div class=\"tiled-gallery__col\"><figure
