{"id":1237,"date":"2012-01-08T22:47:53","date_gmt":"2012-01-08T22:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/?p=1237"},"modified":"2012-04-02T18:32:48","modified_gmt":"2012-04-02T18:32:48","slug":"aurora-ships-composites-aerospace-structures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.compositestoday.com\/2012\/01\/aurora-ships-composites-aerospace-structures\/","title":{"rendered":"Aurora ships Composites Aerospace Structures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aurora Flight Sciences have announced the delivery of the first complete ship set of composite aerospace structures to Northrop Grumman Corporation.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The structures are for the U.S. Navy\u2019s Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Unmanned Aircraft System (BAMS UAS) program.<\/p>\n<p>Aurora manufactures the aft fuselage, forward nacelle, mid nacelle, aft nacelle, and V-tail assemblies of the MQ-4C BAMS UAS aircraft at its composites manufacturing facility in Bridgeport, West Virginia. These structures are then shipped to Northrop Grumman\u2019s manufacturing facility in Palmdale, California for final assembly.<\/p>\n<p>John Langford, Aurora\u2019s President and CEO said;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The delivery of the first ship set of flight hardware is a major step in this important program, we are proud of the role that Aurora plays to deliver affordable, high-quality composite structures to Northrop Grumman for the Navy BAMS UAS program.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fxayhwxeFf8\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"619\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fxayhwxeFf8\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"619\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>The MQ-4C BAMS UAS is the Navy version of the RQ-4 Global Hawk aircraft used by the U.S. Air Force to execute surveillance and reconnaissance tasks. The BAMS aircraft is expected to make its first flight in 2012. The MQ-4C is a long endurance UA that provides Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) information to the maritime forces. When it becomes operational, the BAMS UAS will provide military commanders with a persistent assessment of surface threats covering vast areas of open ocean and littoral regions.<\/p>\n<p>Aurora has been a member of Northrop Grumman\u2019s Q-4 Enterprise team since 1995.
